Why it takes more than one session
Hair grows in three phases, and laser only works on hair in the active growth phase, known as anagen. At any moment, roughly a fifth to a quarter of the hair in an area is in that phase. Everything else is dormant and simply isn't there to treat yet.
That's the whole reason for the schedule. Each session catches a different portion of the hair as it cycles into growth. Four to six weeks between appointments lines up with how quickly most body hair cycles, which is why clinics space them that way rather than running sessions back to back.
Where your area lands in the six-to-eight range depends on three things: how coarse the hair is, how much contrast there is between hair and skin, and whether hormones are driving the growth. Coarse dark hair on a face or a lower leg responds fastest. Fine, pale hair takes longer and may never clear completely.
Areas that need ongoing maintenance
Hormonal areas behave differently. Chin, jaw, neck and upper lip growth is driven by androgens, so new follicles can activate over time even after a completed course. That's normal, not a failed treatment. Most people in this position finish their initial course and then come in once or twice a year for a top-up.
PCOS, thyroid changes, pregnancy and some medications all affect this. It's worth mentioning at your consultation, because it changes what a realistic outcome looks like and how we plan the spacing.
How it compares with waxing over five years
Take lower legs. Waxing every four weeks at roughly $60 a visit is about $780 a year, or $3,900 over five years. Eight laser sessions at $60 is $480 up front, plus the occasional top-up.
Shaving looks cheaper until you count razors, cartridges and the time. The real reason most people switch isn't cost. It's ingrown hairs, razor burn and the small daily tax of maintenance. Those disappear well before the course is finished, usually somewhere around session three or four.
What changes the price
- Area size. Pricing follows the surface treated, which is why a bikini line is $50 and a Brazilian is $100.
- Bundling. Full body at $350 is a fraction of what the same areas cost individually, and it's the most common choice for people treating more than three or four areas.
- Preparation. Turning up unshaved means the appointment has to be rescheduled, because the laser targets the root and surface hair just burns. That costs you a slot rather than money, but it delays the whole course.
Booking and deposits
A 50% deposit holds the appointment and comes off the total. Deposits are non-refundable, but they transfer if you reschedule with 24 hours' notice. The studio runs by appointment, and the booking page lets you pick your areas, see the total and the deposit, then choose a time.
Questions worth asking any clinic
- Which laser do you use, and is it safe for my skin tone? (Ours is a 2025 Soprano ICE Platinum, which treats every skin type.)
- How many sessions do you estimate for my area and hair type?
- What happens if I need a top-up later?
- What's the policy if I have to reschedule?
A clinic that gives you a range rather than a guarantee is being straight with you. Nobody can promise a number before seeing your hair and skin.
